My Inspiration …
Children and families who are touched by Chelsea’s Closet are an inspiration and the reason I have chosen to be a part of The Chelsea Hicks Foundation. Through a small window of pretend and play each month, these seriously ill children and their families benefit from a much needed distraction. This allows the children to be kids: to play dress-up, participate in a craft activity and not be reminded of the reason they are receiving treatment. I have been lucky to share in so many smiles of children receiving treatment at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital when we roll Chelsea’s Closet onto the floor. These two hours of dress-up and play bring so much light and excitement to the children – and a much needed distraction to their families as well.
I am so lucky to have known Chelsea during her short life … and to know the lives she has touched and continues to touch is nothing short of inspiring. Chelsea was such a lively girl and was loved by so many, which is why Chelsea’s Closet is such a giving and rewarding program to be a part of. To have known or even met Chelsea, you would have a lasting impression of her infectious smile. That smile is what adorns these children who are undergoing treatment when Chelsea’s Closet visits the hospital. The light they have on their faces during this short interruption lasts much longer than the two hours Chelsea’s Closet is on the floor. This “hope” is why I, and the other volunteers at The Chelsea Hicks Foundation, want to give and bring light to the children who need it most.
The Chelsea Hicks Foundation is very special and dear to my heart and I have been so honored to be a part of its growth, expansion and future. My wish is for Chelsea’s Closet to continue to grow and blossom and reach as many seriously ill children as we can. We need your help in this venture and have an amazing team of members and volunteers. Please contact us at email@example.com to come and share in the joy and inspiration these children so very much deserve.
