Our Impact
Since 2009, Chelsea’s Closet has brought moments of magic, joy, and hope to more than 27,000 families facing serious childhood illness.
At the heart of our work is the belief that emotional and mental well-being are just as vital as physical healing. Through therapeutic dress up and imaginative play, children are given the freedom to escape fear, anxiety, and pain and to feel brave, joyful, and seen.
Each year, more than 2,400 children experience moments of relief, confidence, and joy through our three core programs: monthly hospital visits, permanent in-hospital closets, and Costume Care Packages delivered to children and their siblings at hospitals and homes. These moments reach far beyond a single smile. Across all 36 Oregon counties and 32 states nationwide, children facing illness are reminded they are seen, valued, and free to imagine themselves as something stronger than their diagnosis. Through the healing power of play, we help turn fear into bravery and ordinary days into moments of magic.
The impact of Chelsea’s Closet reaches far beyond the children we serve. Our mission inspires youth, schools, businesses, and community groups to become part of something meaningful through the joy of volunteering. By serving side by side, volunteers discover the power they have to create positive change, growing in empathy, confidence, and purpose. Together, our Magic Makers help build stronger hearts, kinder communities, and a brighter world filled with hope and joy.
