Join us in a year of celebration – marking the 10th Anniversary of Chelsea’s Closet! Throughout the year, we invite you to meet the people who bring the organization to life!
Kelly Neill, Board Member:
“I’m driven to be a Board Member for Chelsea’s Closet for many reasons. I admire the Hicks and how they have taken a tragic experience and turned it into an organization that brings joy to sick children and their families. I’m driven by the look of joy on kids’ faces when we arrive at the hospital with a costume for them. It’s so gratifying to bring these kids some fun, in a place that isn’t fun most of the time. And, as a parent, I can identify with the worry and pain caused by watching your child suffer. I’m driven to help ease these parents’ worries, even just a little.
As a Board Member and volunteer I’ve learned that an item as seemingly small and simple as a costume, tiara, or a pair of fancy shoes can drastically change the energy in a hospital room. I’ve learned that costumes can be therapeutic when they are the ONE thing that motivates a hospitalized child to get out of their bed for the first time in days (that’s the best!). I’ve learned that you can have all kinds of fun while distributing dress-up clothes. And, I’ve learned that lightsabers and Jenga are appropriate for all ages. I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring joy to these children and their families.”
