Building a Heart for Service: YMSL Lake Oswego Chapter and Chelsea Hicks Foundation

At the Chelsea Hicks Foundation, we often say that magic isn’t just in fairy tales. It happens every day in the hands and hearts of our volunteers.

For nearly two years, the Young Men’s Service League ~ Lake Oswego Chapter has been a beautiful part of that magic.

One Saturday each month, from 10:00 to 12:00, we can count on this incredible group of moms and their sons to walk through our warehouse doors ready to serve. Their consistency is something truly special. Month after month, they show up, side by side, ready to give their time and energy to something bigger than themselves.

Together, they contribute an average of 16 volunteer hours each month, helping with the behind the scenes work that makes everything we do possible. From sorting and organizing costumes to preparing items for hospital visits and care packages, their hands are helping create moments of comfort, imagination, and joy for children facing some of life’s hardest days.

But what we treasure most is not just what gets done. It is how it gets done.

There is something incredibly meaningful about watching mothers and sons serve together. Conversations happening while they work. Laughter shared over simple tasks. Quiet moments where something deeper is taking root.
A heart for service. A sense of purpose. A connection that grows stronger with each visit.

We truly love being a place where that can happen.

To provide a space where families can come together, give back, and grow alongside one another is something we hold close. It is an honor to witness relationships deepen while they are also making a difference in the lives of others.

Because of them, more children get to play, pretend, and laugh.
Because of them, more families feel seen, supported, and cared for.
Because of them, magic continues to happen.

To the Young Men’s Service League Lake Oswego Chapter, thank you for showing up, for leading with heart, and for allowing us to be part of your journey together.

We are so grateful for you.

About the Chelsea Hicks Foundation

Starting in 2009, the Chelsea Hicks Foundation has been inspiring hope and empowering children through the power of play.
