The Moments You Don’t Always See

The mornings always start the same.

A trailer, packed to the brim with Chelsea’s Closets—every costume, accessory, and tiny detail we can fit—rolling into Randall Children’s Hospital with hope that somewhere inside it is exactly what a child needs that day.

And then… the doors open, and everything becomes unknown.

We never know how many families we’ll meet.

How old they’ll be.

What they love.

Or what kind of moment they might need.

So we come prepared for everything— babies, toddlers, kids, teens, even young adults—hoping we get it right.

Some children are meeting us for the very first time.

Others… we recognize. The kind of familiar you wish didn’t exist but are so grateful to be there for.

We don’t always get to capture these moments.

But this time, we caught a few.

Palmer, 3.5, twirling like a princess with pure delight—completely lost in her own little world.

Emmett, taking his very first ride with us—wide-eyed, curious, stepping into something new.

Jake, 15, slipping on a pair of Bluey slippers and, just like that… a smile.

Small moments.

Big impact.

Because for a little while, in the middle of hospital rooms and hard days, they get to choose.

They get to escape.

They get to just be kids.

And that is everything.

It takes a village to create moments like these…

We are so grateful for Sundt Foundation, Mr. Plywood, and the many partners who stand alongside us to make this work possible.

Because of you… magic can happen!

About the Chelsea Hicks Foundation

Starting in 2009, the Chelsea Hicks Foundation has been inspiring hope and empowering children through the power of play. When serious illness impacts a child's world, CHF helps children and families PLAY, PRETEND, and LAUGH together, creating special moments and lasting memories when they are needed most.
