When Volunteers Feel Like Part of the Story: Public Storage Shows Up Again

There is something really special about the volunteers who don’t just show up once… they come back.

That’s exactly what we experienced today with the incredible team from Public Storage. This wasn’t their first time in our warehouse, and you could feel it the moment they walked in. No hesitation. No warm-up needed. Just sleeves rolled up and ready to get to work.

And work they did.

Hundreds of bottles of nail polish, unpacked and sorted by color into a rainbow of possibility for the kids we serve. Sparkly crowns, carefully packaged and ready to make their way into hospital rooms where imagination matters more than anything. Baby rattles, prepped with care for our littlest ones. Stanley cups inventoried and set aside, knowing just how much our teens will love them.

They jumped right in and made it look easy.

They also tackled one of the biggest projects we’ve been staring down… packing up from our recent spring sale. The kind of task that can sit on a to-do list for weeks. What would have taken our small team so much time was handled in a matter of hours.

But what makes a day like this truly stand out isn’t just what gets done.

It’s the energy.

The laughter.

The playful banter.

The moments in between the tasks where we get to know the people behind the helping hands.

That’s where the magic lives.

Because at the Chelsea Hicks Foundation, our work is rooted in connection just as much as it is in service. And when volunteers return year after year, it becomes something more than a one-time experience. It becomes a relationship. A shared belief. A commitment to showing up for children who need moments of joy, imagination, and escape.

Days like today remind us just how lucky we are.

To be surrounded by people who care.

To be supported by partners who come back.

To do this work together.

Public Storage, thank you for being part of this story… again.

Play.

Pretend.

Laugh.
